Hand Therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper extremity. It involves evaluation and testing to assess the injured extremity from which a specific treatment program can be designed. A variety of specialized treatment techniques are used to achieve your goals.
Hand Therapists are registered Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists who, through further education, clinical experience and independent study have become proficient in the treatment of upper limb conditions resulting from injury, disease or deformity.
We specialize in treating upper extremity conditions. All of our therapists are experienced Board Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs). Each & every therapy session is hands-on and one to one in private rooms. You will have the undivided attention of your therapist the entire duration of your session. Well regarded by both the patients and referring doctors. Click here for more information.

★★★★★Bharat Valurupalli is a healer and engineer rolled into one, which makes a great occupational therapist. He is professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and effective. He customizes each therapy program (frequency and duration of sessions) and even individual sessions based on the patient's needs (injury, progress, measurements, etc.). He provides detailed information about the hand's anatomy, illustrates how it has been affected by the injury, and explains how the specific exercises will improve mobility.
My husband saw Bharat after an accident that required surgery and left him with very little mobility in his hand/fingers due to nerve damage. After a couple of month's of in-hospital rehab, we went to Bharat. He started with 3 days a week for half hour, after a few sessions he gradually decreased it to twice a week, then once a week, and finally every other week for a couple of sessions, after which he said there was no need to see him anymore. His focus is actually improving the patient's condition so the patient will no longer need therapy. He tried out different exercises depending on the progress, changed things around when needed.
From the very beginning he showed us how to do the exercises, and insisted my husband do them every couple of hours throughout the day without assistance. The exercises are not easy, but they are clearly effective. My husband regained a lot of mobility and continues to do the exercises regularly to maintain mobility.
Scheduling (and re-scheduling) was easy.
We really appreciate his compassion and effort.

★★★★★Dr Vallupulluri diagnosed and helped me with the proper stretches and exercises to cure my ulnar neuropathy - items that a regular physical therapist wasn't able to show me. I appreciate his skill. My recommendation: use your camera to record how to do what he teaches you.

★★★★★Just awesome. Very friendly and extremely effective. Comfortable atmosphere. I have a very difficult work schedule that is constantly changing and he has been very patient and worked with me very well. The motion in my wrist has been restored completely after my injury and surgery. Glad this where I got sent.

★★★★★I made incredible progress here. Professional, nice, flexible, etc. Can't recommend strongly enough. Easy parking in Vienna--worth coming from anywhere--near 66 and Nutley.

★★★★★Bharat knows what he is doing. He is thorough, patient, knowledgeable and flexible. My 16 year old son severed the tendon in his finger which required surgery. Bharat was there every step of the way until he had a fully functioning hand again. I highly recommend him!

★★★★★Bharat Valurupalli is awesome! He takes pride in what he does. He is knowledgable and uses effective techniques like exercises and massages in his plan of care. His instructions are very clear on how to do the exercises. He gives a thorough explanation of the anatomy and physiology of the part involved. He takes measurements to evaluate progress and is also very creative in making the most effective splint. The injury on my thumb involved nerve and tendon damage and due to his expertise and dedication in giving the best care, I have regained most of the functioning.
I would strongly recommend Bharat to anyone who is seeking quality care.

★★★★★The owner and therapist at Apex is Bharat Vallurupalli (MS, OTR/L, CHT), a certified Hand Therapist. He worked "hand-in-hand" with Dr. Thomas Shepler, MD, of the Manus Center in Vienna, the most competent physician I have ever used. Dr. Shepler practiced as an Orthopedic Surgeon; unfortunately, he just retired.
Bharat gave me exercises for my hand and manipulated a couple times a week over a few months. I had fallen on it and broken several fingers. Severe osteoarthritis complicated the problem. When I began seeing him I had virtually no movement in 2 of the fingers, swelling and pain. My fingers were so immobile that I could hardly write.
Bharat worked directly with me in the sessions giving me the most effective treatment possible. We spent a lot of time working closely together. He has a very pleasant personality and is extremely professional.
By the time therapy ended, my mobility had returned, and the swelling and pain were largely gone. My fingers were flexible, again. He performed a miracle for me.

★★★★★This guy is great!
Some therapy is just massages and heating pads and stuff that just makes you feel good temporarily. Not this guy. Bharat is like a mechanical engineer. He makes precise measurement of the angles of your joints, and then gives you a customized program of stretches and exercises.
The exercises aren't necessarily fun, and you really have to work. But then you start to get better, and that's what you came for.

★★★★★After breaking bones in my little finger, my doctor referred me to Apex Hand Therapy once the pins were removed from my finger. Bharat is awesome. The sessions I had, coupled with the exercises he prescribed, have made all the difference. My finger now has full range of motion. I highly recommend him. Thank you so much!
